Elite Athlete Standards
Elite athletes must now meet the outlined athletic standards to be eligible for elite athlete status. Standards must have been run since January 1, 2020.
Women: 18:30 over 5K (or equivalent*)
Men: 15:30 over 5K (or equivalent*)
*We recognize that due to the pandemic, not every athlete has had a chance to race a 5K. As such, equivalent standards mean that athletes can enter a similar personal best in the marathon, 10K, or other recognized distance and receive entry. Conversions will be double checked through the Jack Daniels’ VDOT Running Calculator.
Athletes must apply to enter the event. Athletes can apply here.
Travel Assistance
Budget has been set aside to support elite athletes travelling to and from the event. When applying for entry, athletes can also apply for travel assistance. Grants will be provided up to $1,000.
The amount of assistance received will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to: personal bests, number of Olympics attended, number of World Championships attended, personal bests, connection to Atlantic Canada, placing at the 2021 virtual Canadian 5K Championship, and willingness to promote the event.
The goal of organizers is to accommodate as many athletes as possible.
Accommodation Assistance
Budget has been set aside to support elite athletes while in Moncton. When applying for entry, athletes can also apply for accommodation assistance. Athletes who receive accommodation assistance will have a room reserved in a quiet wing of the Delta Marriott, the official race hotel, for two nights (Friday and Saturday). All supported athletes will be partnered with a roommate. Athletes who wish to arrive prior to Friday or leave town later than Sunday should contact the elite athlete coordinator to arrange a billet.
The goal of organizers is to accommodate as many athletes as possible.
All elite athletes will receive a complimentary entry to the Saturday evening banquet and a post-race celebration following Sunday’s race.
